Value statements
Teacher’s statement
Teachers recognise their work as one of ‘transmission’ of skills and lore of the tradition, and as ‘facilitators’, reflecting the true nature of their perceived role at camp. As teacher facilitators, they work to create a safe, strong container in which each participant has the opportunity to experience devotion, desire, community, energy, learn practical skills and step into the journey through a chosen myth or fairy tale that may lead to personal spiritual experience and transformation.
Organiser’s statement
As organisers of Avalon Spring – some of us have been organising intensives, witchcamps and classes for many years - we have carefully considered our ethos and values as an organising group. We have read and discussed how the Principles of Unity, to which we adhere, can be better manifested in our communities and, in particular, in the ethos of organising Witchcamp.
As part of this process, we decided that Avalon Spring will be taught and organised by a team of facilitators. We believe that the term facilitator better reflects our values and beliefs, honouring the work of both organisers and teachers. However, we also acknowledge that there are differences in our roles and therefore some of the facilitators are ‘teaching facilitators‘ and some ‘organising facilitators‘.
Because ours is a small community, some of us have both roles and we are committed to be transparent about this. We hope that we will have a large enough team of organising facilitators in the future so that our belief in a rotation system can also be manifested. We believe that rotating roles, as well as moving between the inner and outer organising wheels, would keep us healthier, both as individuals and as a group. We recognise that this has not been possible so far but we state our intention for the future of Avalon Spring clearly so that willing facilitators can spring from the Reclaiming and Feri community in the UK.
Finally, we would like to state clearly that all facilitators are donating their labour, energy, resources, experience and love freely to this enterprise. We also acknowledge that the magical spiritual makeup of the organising facilitating team are either initiated in Reclaiming and Anderson Feri Traditions or have completed long term training in Reclaiming Feri or, are currently in training.
